Eligibility Criteria for Admission:

NOTE:

  • NO EXTRA MONEY IN FORM OF ANY DONATIONS / COMMISSIONS SHOULD BE PAID BY THE CANDIDATE TO ANY ONE OTHER THEN THE ACTUAL FEES.
  • THE ACADEMY WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH KIND OF PAYMENT MADE BY ANY CANDIDATE.
  • THE CANDIDATE SHOULD ASK FOR VALID RECIPT FOR EVERY PAYMENT MADE & REPORT THE MANAGEMENT IF ANY EXTRA MONEY HAS BEEN ASKED BY ANY EMPLOYEE WITHIN OR OUTSIDE THE ACADEMY.

Physical Fitness:
Minimum required physical attributes are:

Pre-Sea (PANAMA )
Height : 155 cms.
Weight : 48 Kgs.
Eyesight : Normal Vision (6/6 in better eye & 6/9 in other eye without glasses and free from colour blindness)

Pre Sea (LIBERIAN)
Height : 155 cms.
Weight : 48 Kgs.
Eyesight : Normal Vision (6/6 in better eye & 6/9 in other eye without glasses and free from colour blindness)

Course for BASIC SEAMAN.
Height : 155 cms.
Weight : 48 Kgs.
Eyesight : Normal Vision (6/6 in better eye & 6/9 in other eye without glasses and free from colour blindness)

No Colour Blindness.

Admission Procedure:
The candidates who meet the eligibility criteria for admission can apply for these courses.

Candidates desirous to join Pre-Sea Residential Training will have to apply to OIOMN on the prescribed form, when the advertisement appears in the leading newspapers & magazines. The application form is given in the prospectus)

The candidates should submit completed application form along with the following

  • Notarised copy of Date of Birth
  • I) Notarised copy of 10 th Class passing Certificate (Pre Sea )
    II) Notarised copy 12th Class passing Certificate (Pre Sea)
  • I) Notarised copy of 10 th Class Mark sheet (Pre Sea)
    II) Notarised copy of 12th Class Mark Sheet (Pre Sea)
  • Notarised copy of proof of Indian Citizenship, i.e. (Passport / Ration card / Election Commission of India-Identity Card, etc.
  • Recent Passport size photographs (2 Copies)

Original Certificates will have to be produced for verification at the time of admission / reporting.

NOTE: Mode of Selection
Upon collection and scrutinising the applications, the Selection Board of OIOMN will issue call letters to the short listed candidates.

Candidates are short listed on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination. Preference will be given to candidates with higher qualification and to the wards of serving / retired seafarers, subject to meeting the Eligibility Criteria. Copies of the Guardian's CDC will be considered authentic proof for justifying the claim.

Short listed candidates are adviced to report at the Academy. The candidates have to undergo Test (Written or Oral) or both. They will be tested on the basis of their attitude and aptitude towards seafaring profession, ability to communicate in English, general comprehension and seafaring background, if any.

Oceanic Institute of Merchant Navy reserves the right to select or reject any candidate. The Selection Committee is not bound to call an applicant for interview or to assign any reason for rejection.

The candidates who qualify in the final test will have to undergo medical examination by a doctors appointed by Panama Panel Doctor. Selection will be confirmed only if the candidate is found to be medically fit for sea service.

Once declared medically fit candidates must take admission by paying his course fees, failing which the seat will be offered to the next candidate as per the merit list.

The fees once paid will not be refunded or transferred to any other candidate's account.
Due to any reason if the training is extended beyond the specified time, the candidates will have to pay extra charges as per the decision of Oceanic Institute of Merchant Navy.

Caution
Any suppression of truth, mis-representation of facts or submission of false Certificates will result in cancellation of admission, forfeiture of fees and shall be punishable as per the law. Fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Removal from Academy for all Pre-Sea (PANAMA / LIBERIAN)
Cases of major indiscipline will be a cause for rustication from the Academy. Minor offences will be dealt by the Centre Manager and warning letter sent to parents if considered necessary by the Centre Manager.

Rules and Regulations for all Pre-Sea (PANAMA / LIBERIAN)
The standing rules and regulations of the Academy shall be binding on all students. This may be changed without prior intimation to the students.

Gold ornaments or other valuable items or any kind of electrical apparatus are not allowed to be kept.

Candidates are not allowed to keep more than about Rs. 500/- in cash with them. Excess cash should be deposited with the cashier and can be withdrawn in lots of Rs. 500/-.

Uniform is to be worn at all times during training. Hence, very few civilian clothes are to be brought. Uniforms will be supplied within two week of joining.

Candidates are permitted ' Short leave' with prior permission only and on genuine grounds.

Candidates are not allowed to stay out of the campus at night under any circumstances. Parents are instructed not to make any request for the same.

Visitors are permitted only on Sundays between 1400 and 1700 hours.

The use of tobacco and alcohol is strictly prohibited in the Academy.

Long hair, moustaches and beards are not allowed during the period of training. Sikh candidates are exempted from this.

The following are prohibited in the hostel

    • Illegal drugs
    • Gambling
    • Fire arms of any kind
    • Knives
    • Pets or livestock of any description
    • Ragging in any form

FACILITIES

Hostel , Swimming and Basic Computer Training

KIT TO BE BROUGHT BY THE CANDIDATES:
Apart from normal clothing and toiletries, candidates are required to bring:

1. Bed Sheets white 4 Nos. (White)
2. Pillow cases white 2 Nos.
3. Bath Towels white 2 Nos.
4 Handkerchiefs white 4 Nos.
5. Night suits white 2 Nos
6. Black shoes (Leather) & PT shoes white Canvas - 1 pair each and white T shirts.

These shall remain as part of the cadet's own property, to be taken back with him on completion of course. This kit is compulsory for all the courses.
